As you read this memoir, do you begin to feel as if you knew or relate to the people involved? Do you like them? Do you think you’d have been happy to live in Coalwood in the late 1950’s? If you had, what position in it would you have wanted? Coal miner? Foreman? Teacher? Housewife? Preacher? Doctor? Rocket Boy or Girl? Football Star?

I dont see any relating towards the book to my personal life yet. Also, living in coalwood would be terrible. However, if i had to answer i would say that i would want to be a doctor. I would want to be a doctor because i like helping people out. It would also be cool to see people go from bad to good with their diseases, wounds, or battlescars.

If I lived in Coalwood in the 1950s i would be a football star. I don't think i would really like Coalwood, therefore I would want the best chance to get out of the town. I think being a football would get me a scholarship out of the town to a big town college. This would help me not be there when it crashed. I do not think I am not very similar to these people and so i would not want to live there.

Honestly, I do not relate this book to my personal life quite yet. If I lived in Coalwood I would have enjoyed it because of the communnity there. However, if I lived in Coalwood I would have probably been a football pl;ayer. I would not have wanted to remain in Coalwood for the rest of my life. If I was a football star I would want to get a scholarship to college.

In my personal opinion, I do not think that I relate to the people in Coalwood. If I were to live in Coalwood though, I would want to be a doctor. I would like this as my career there because I would like to help people who were sick. I would especially like it because I feel that I would never be bored there because I would always be seeing someone because many coal miners can get sick from the dust and lack of clean air in the mines.

I do not feel that I relate to or know any of the people in this book. I do like the people, though, as they seem like hard-workers and somewhat intelligent people. I most likely would not like living in Coalwood in the 1950's, but that would only be if I was a miner or lived there for awhile. If I lived there for a little bit I think it would be fun. In addition, if I was living in Coalwood I would want to be a doctor or a preacher. A doctor for good pay and growing in knowledge, and a preacher for my faith in God.

I do not feel that I have related to any of the people involved in this book. If I were to live in Coalwood during the 1950's I would have to be a miner. Being a miner is what the town lives and breaths and I would like to be apart of that. Although being a miner is a dangerous job, I would feel that I would be contributing to the town and its people. In conclusion, I would be a miner because it is good work and I would always be busy even though I would do the same thing every day.

I do not relate to any characters in the book in my personal life. I do like most characters so far in the book because they are close to one another like a real neighborhood.I would not like living in Coalwood in the 1950's, because it is mostly miners and that is not the job I would choose. I would want to be a doctor because you can work anywhere in the world and still be able to help people. Another reason I would want to be a doctor is the chance to help sick people.

I kind of relate to Homer because I enjoy science and I like rocket science. I like Homer, but I believe he should get the respect he needs from his father. I also believe the mother should stop the actions of Homers dad. I would hate to live in coalwood because of the people getting sick from working in the mines and it is very small. I would dislike the smallness because I live in a very large city near Milwaukee. I would have wanted to work as a teacher because it looked like the most fun job on the list, and I could get some cash. These are my thoughts on the questions.

In my personal opinion I don't see my life having any relation to the life in Coalwood. I would not like living there because I wouldn't want to have such a small selection on jobs and i wouldn't want to be surrounded by people not very intelligent. If i had to pick someone to be i would want to be a Doctor. I would want to have this job because i plan to go into the medical field as i get older and it brings much interest to me. Being a doctor will make good money for when I'm supporting family. Also science is one of my favorite subjects and being a doctor you have to know a lot of science.

I do not have any relations with Coalwood. Also, I would not enjoy living there since it is a small town with very little opportunities. If i had to pick a job, I would choose to be a doctor. This would allow me to receive good pay and may allow me to move out of Coalwood. Also, I have had an interest in being a doctor in the past because I enjoy helping others.

I don't really think that I relate to any of the characters in this story personally, but I can relate to having a goal or dream that seems nearly impossible. Since I don't think that my personality would mesh well with the people who live here, I would not have enjoyed living there. Also, In Coalwood, word seems to spread extremely fast, and I personally wouldn't want my personal information to be spread around. However, if i had to live there, I would most likely want to be a teacher. I would want to inspire kids to go for their dreams and help them to not let others tear them down.

I don't think that I can relate to anyone in Coalwood. Although it is a small town kind of like Elm Grove is, I don't think that anyone there really is similar to me. Most of the people who live there seem to believe that the mine is the only source of success in the world, which explains why most of the kids work in the mine after graduating instead of going to College. Coalwood would restrict me and prevent me from following my dreams. Because of this, I don't think that I'd want to live there.

So far from this book, I only slightly relate to some of the characters. I relate to Sonny because he has got in trouble with his father but aside from that there is not much else that I have in common with these characters. I like Sonny, the only person I relate to so far because he does his own thing even though almost no one else builds rockets. If I did live in Coalwood I would not have enjoyed it because it sounds dreary and boring. If I had to pick an occupation it would be a rocket boy because it sounds like one of the more entertaining jobs and definetly not a miner because that is a tedious and harmful job.

Personally, I would not fit in with the town and people of Coalwood. My reason is because the town and most of the people like only one way of doing things. I don't feel I relate to the people in the town but some characters I admire. If I could choose, I would want to be a doctor because I enjoy caring for the injured and sick and I would receive an education and a good paying salary.

In the book so far their is nobody i relate to yet. If i'd have to live in coalwood in the 1950's i probably be unhappy because i would not enjoy a town where everything was run by the company. Also, i would find it hard living in a area where there are not many people. If i had to have any position i would probably want to be a foreman because they are the leaders in coalwood.

If I lived in Coalwood during the 1950s I dont think that I would fit in very well. This is because everybody living there seems to play football, which I dont think I would enjoy. If I were to live there I would want to be a doctor. The reasoning behind this is because you can make enough money to supply for your family, since it sounds like it is hard to make money in Coalwood if you arent a coal miner. Also, if you were to be a doctor you could stay safe, unlike if you were a coalminer who would have a high chance of getting sick. So far in the book I dont feel like I have related to anyone.

At this point in the book, I don't think I relate to any of the characters. I wouldn't enjoy living in Coalwood because I wouldn't like how focused on mining the town is. I would want to be a good football player in high school so that I could get a scholarship to a college. This would help me to get to Coalwood. I would want to be out of the town before the mine shut down and everyone's lives were ruined.

For me, I believe that I would relate to Sonny. I believe this because both he and I have a passion for something that is outside of school. Also, I do not think I would enjoy living in Coalwood because I think the town would be boring and uneventful. I would quickly get tired of the town and want to leave as soon as possible.

So far in October Sky, i have not been able to relate to the community of Coalwood. I also would not like to live in Coalwood because the people are quick to judge others, like they do to Sonny. The position I would like most in Coalwood is to be a star football player. This is because football players are respected more than a rocket boy, preacher, or any other job. The football games are important in Coalwood. This is because the team has gone undefeated. If I were a football player , I'd be respected, well-known, and I'd have fun in the bland city of Coalwood.

I do not relate personally to any specific character yet. I am a mix of Sonny's high aspirations, Elise's willingness to help, and some other characters. I would not like the life in Coalwood because it seems boring and plain. I would especially not like it because you already have a set track of what you are going to do in life. Most people would go to high school and then after that, go to work in the coal mine. If I were in the town of Coalwood, I would want to be a Doctor because I would feel like I was making a difference in the community by helping all of the people that worked in the mine and their families. Also, I would choose this profession because you would not have to work in the mine and put your health at risk.

Even though we are already several chapters into the book I don't think I can relate to any of the characters in the book. Coalwood just doesn't seem like the right place for me to grow up and live in. The fact that the whole town has to revolve around mining would is not very appealing to me. I would not like to live there at all. Although, if I had to live in Coalwood I would try to become a big football star so that I could receive a scholarship to college. This would allow me to see the world outside of Coalwood and hopefully put me on a path for success. If I failed to become the football star, then I would probably want to become a doctor. If I had this job I could help miners recover from illness and create a descent profit from it as well.

There s really no one I relate to in the book. Coming from a guy growing up in the 21st century, I would hate living in Coalwood in the 1950s. Even if I was growing up their in that time period, I expect to have the same personality so I would also hate then because there are not many choices of what to do with your life in that town. If I had to be a person in that town, I would for sure be a star football player on the team. This way there would be a good chance of me getting out of the town.

I can very vaguely see traits of some people I know through the characters in the memoir. However, nearly all of the people are portrayed to have exaggerated personalities; Sonny's brother is a stereotypical jock, and Quentin is an all-knowing genius. Because the people seem one-dimensional and do not share any interests with me, I would not relate them. Coalwood is a town that is not very supportive of a student's future goals and dreams. Unless they are talented football players, most students are destined to lives as coal miners or caretakers of their families. Therefore, I would not enjoy living in Coalwood during this time period. If I did live there, though, I would want to be a teacher or a doctor. By becoming a doctor, my education would not be going to waste, and I would be following my own path. Though teachers could inspire and encourage the children of Coalwood, their guidance might be under-appreciated.

I am not really relating to any of the characters yet, nor does it seem like I know any of them. Instead, the way that the people are described make them seem very real, most likely because they are based off of real people. I don't think that living in Coalwood would make me very happy, but I would still be appreciative of all the free services that are provided by the mining company. It seems like living in Coalwood is a very safe way of living, seeing as you are promised a good life, but nothing above that. I would most likely be a foreman or doctor, seeing as I wouldn't want to drop out of school, but rather reach for a higher prestige of living in Coalwood.

I do not find myself relating to any of the characters. I am, however, in between on living in Coalwood. I would like it because you are promised a job and a living and a good way to live life. However, you do not get the oppurtunity of seeing what is out in the world. One may not see any other great jobs you can do for a lving. So, in that sense, it would be very boring. And I think that is what Sonny is doing. He is different because he wants to explore what's out in the world and not just what's in Coalwood

I feel as though i do not relate to the people in this book. This is because where i live is where i hopefully will want to stay when i grow up. However, if i do relate to someone, it would be Sonny because i still have not figured out my life, but i do have goals i want to pursue. In contrast, i still do like the people in this book because they could be role models of determination. although, i do not wish to live in Coalwood in the late 1950s because of the position the students are in. If i would want to live in Coalwood though, i would want to be a doctor, showing the people that in Coalwood there really is hope.

I do not relate to the people in this book yet. I think the people seem pretty nice but living in Coalwood would be terrible. Everything is controlled by one company and you can't do anything fun or anything like that. There is only one chance to get out of Coalwood and that would be to be a football player. Any other job would keep you there and that would be awful. I would hate it.

I do not realate to the people in this book. If i live in coalwood in the 1950's I don't think I would've liked it. I would most likley want to be a football star because I would not want to live in coalwood. If i could get a scholarship to a bigger college with a new enviornment that would be ideal.
